Some teams around the NFL are still searching for their franchise quarterback, and we can probably say that for about half of the league. There are about 10 good quarterbacks, five elite ones, and a handful of others who are just kind of fillers at the moment. At any moment, those teams could look to move on from those guys, or at least replace them.
At the bottom, we have some veterans and guys who just simply aren’t going to do the job.
The New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns are at the top of that list, though there’s reason to believe that they could fix that in the near future if they’re willing to take a chance on somebody like Brendan Sorsby, who was recently told he won’t be able to play college football any longer after a gambling investigation.
It remains uncertain which other teams will be interested in Sorsby in what is expected to be the supplemental draft, but Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated recently noted that the Dallas Cowboys could be in the mix.
“There’s also the other piece of this: Dak Prescott will turn 34 next summer, has been banged up, and the time could be coming to put an heir apparent into the pipeline. If you’re Dallas, would you throw a second- or third-round supplemental pick out there this summer for Brendan Sorsby, should he declare? It’s worth thinking about, anyway,” Breer said.
There’s a lot to think of here when it comes to the Cowboys getting interested in Sorsby, and one of them could actually benefit the Browns or Jets. If the Browns or Jets are willing to take on Dak Prescott, or at least look to make a move for him, they’d be a much better team than they currently are.
The problem with Prescott is that he’s definitely getting older, so both teams will have to keep that in the back of their minds. Regarding Sorsby, if the Cowboys are interested, they’ll be another team in the mix for a player many believe is a first-round talent.
