The answers for Connections today are:

  • SPLENDID: BRILLIANT, CAPITAL, FINE, GRAND
  • STARTS OF CULINARY NUTS: CASH, HAZE, MAC, PEC

NYT-Connections-Answers-August-15

Today’s NYT Connections was quite easy to figure out. I quickly deduced a connection between BREAST, TENDER, THIGH, and WING as cuts of a chicken and solved the yellow category. Then saw a string between BRILLIANT, CAPITAL, FINE, and GRAND, solving the blue category.

The green and the purple ones were comparatively difficult, so I started guessing, and in my second attempt, I completed the purple category, leaving the green one for last.

How to Play Connections: Best Tips & Tricks

Given the fact that you’re here, chances are that you already know how to play NYT Connections. As you might be able to tell by now, the New York Times Connections is a word association game where players sort out 16 random words into four categories by finding a common ‘connection.’ This can be anything from a common sound to a deeper meaning.

That said, if you’re still confused, here are the best tips on how to play NYT Connections:

  • Simplicity is key: Connections will often use ambiguous words. While it’s easy to get caught up in the details, the answer almost always lies in the simplest connections possible. So, instead of “dear” and “deer” being connected through a hunter-prey dynamic, they most likely connect because of a similar sound.
  • Watch those guesses: A key thing to note is that Connections only gives you four chances in 24 hours for a single puzzle. As such, we advise not being trigger-happy and carefully weighing your words before pressing that submit button.
  • Shuffle Away: Though a bit tricky, the sneaky Connections editor deliberately puts the first-word placement as a misdirection. The one golden tip here is to press that Shuffle button before you try solving it.

NYT-Connections-Answer-August-16

Today’s NYT Connections was sort of confusing for me. I first guessed the green category, building an instant connection between CONSTRUCTION, REPAIRS, UPGRADES, and WORK, followed by the purple category, seeing as these are all types of papers.

The yellow and the blue categories had me guessing for some time, and I genuinely failed it thrice before guessing the yellow category correctly, leaving the blue one for the last.

NYT-Connections-Answer-August-13

Today’s NYT Connections categories were hard to guess. After a lot of thinking, I could not make up any proper connections. But later I saw that words like BOARD, FISH, GATE, and STRUCK can all have the word STAR as a prefix. That was my only hunch, and it paid off.

My next guess was the green category as I put together CLIP, EXTRACT, PASSAGE, and QUOTE, but the yellow and blue ones were the hardest to guess. I failed twice before properly guessing the yellow and finally the blue categories.

  • COMPONENTS OF A BRIDE’S ENSEMBLE: BOUQUET, BUSTLE, TRAIN, VEIL
  • RHYMING COMPOUND WORDS: BACKPACK, COOKBOOK, HUBBUB, NITWIT

NYT Connections Answer August 14

Today’s NYT Connections was a mixed bag. I connected the words BACKSIDE, CABOOSE, SEAT, and TAIL to refer to something at the back. But I didn’t expect the category to be derriere, which means buttocks.

The green category was also an easy one, but the blue one left me scratching my head. Only because I couldn’t piece together that TRAIN could also be the extended portion of the dress that hangs at the back. So I left the blue category for last, doing the purple one before it.
